A third man has been charged over the murder of Zachery “Zac” Davies-Scott following a home invasion, which occurred at Heddon Greta more than 12 months ago.

About 10.50pm on Tuesday 27 December 2022, emergency services were called to Traders Way.

Reports surfaced a male had been shot at the premises.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man.

However, he died at the scene.

He’s since been identified as 25-year-old Davies-Scott, known to many in the area as “Donnie”.

State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Roslyn, with assistance provided from officers attached to the Hunter Valley Police District and Northern Region.

Police were told a group of people forced entry to the Heddon Greta home before Davies-Scott was fatally shot in what is believed to be a home invasion gone wrong.

A 52-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries attempting to fight off the alleged attackers.

Other family members home at the time – including two children, aged two and four, and Davies-Scott’s pregnant partner – witnessed the incident, but were uninjured.

Following inquiries, about 4.50am on Tuesday 16 January, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – arrested a 25-year-old man at Elermore Vale.

He was taken to Waratah Police Station and, later, charged with murder.

As a result, he was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 16 January.

Two men remain before the courts charged over this incident, while a 25-year-old woman was arrested on 5 January 2024, and charged with hindering the investigation and possess a prohibited drug.

She’s due to appear in Kurri Kurri Local Court on 23 January.

Investigations under Strike Force Roslyn continue.

Anyone with information that may assist them is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.

Details are treated in strict confidence.
