High axe-pectations met at MANIAX

SHARE

If you have high axe-pectations venturing to Newcastle’s latest entertainment venue, then you won’t be disappointed.

MANIAX Axe Throwing will officially open its doors in King Street on Wednesday 19 April, but a few guests jumped at the chance to unleash their inner Viking and their test their skills this week.

First established in Australia in 2014, the phenomenon boasts sites in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast.

Now, the Hunter can be added to the list.

“We’ve been looking to come to Newcastle for some time,” sales and marketing head Aaron Hocking said.

“We initially tried a couple of years ago, however COVID intervened.

“But, it’s worked out well for us… we love this location.

“The local [neighbouring] businesses have been great and very supportive, so we’re really excited to be here.

“In fact, everyone’s made us feel welcome.

“We’re now hoping people turn up to try something new… and have fun, too.”

Newcastle Knights star Tyson Gamble was one of the first to step into the cage.

And, he may be tempted to swap his footy boots for some handmade, soft leather 11th century shoes after discovering a hidden talent.

“How good is it?” the playmaker told the Newcastle Weekly.

“I must admit, I was more nervous doing this than playing a game of footy.

“I’d never thrown an axe before.

“However, it was great to be invited to the launch… and I wish them well.

“They’re new to Newcastle, as am I, so it was a bit of a no-brainer for myself to get among it.

“I believe it’s important to be involved in the local community.

“Hopefully, we’ll see heaps of residents here in the next few weeks.”

For the uninitiated, MANIAX Axe Throwing is much more than just a sporting hotspot.

Yes, there’s three group (two targets) and six Quick Chuck lanes (single targets), all supervised by axe-perts who offer valuable advice and technique tips.

But, you can also sample craft beer, Viking-inspired cocktails and non-alcoholic options at the fully-licensed bar, while enjoying piping hot pizzas, charcuterie-style grazing boards, burgers and epic feasts as well.

It’s perfect for team-building events, birthday celebrations, hens/bucks parties, date nights with your partner or just epic get-togethers with a bunch of mates for any occasion.

MANIAX Axe Throwing will open seven days a week.
