Big brands help celebrate 100 years of Vinnies

Belmont North is one of a dozen Vinnies Op Shops in the state to feature some coveted fashion labels this month, as the charity celebrates 100 years of support.

Kathmandu, Lee Mathews, Mulberry, Seafolly and Shona Joy are among the brands donating treasures that will ultimately raise vital funds to support community members in need.

Clothing, accessories and homewares will be among 100 feature items placed in select Vinnies shops and available for purchase between October 24 and November 6.

The items will be tagged with a golden ticket, making them easily identifiable.

The Belmont North store, which opened its doors in February, is the newest outlet chosen to participate in the promotion that marks 100 years of Vinnie shops in operation.

Relying on quality pre-loved donations, the charity on-sells to the community, with proceeds being used to assist in its services that include domestic violence, homelessness, disability and disaster support.

As part of the centenary celebrations other special items will also be on sale during the campaign, with every transaction made at Vinnies NSW Shops being eligible to go into the draw to win.

“Our shops play an important role in making our services sustainable, along with reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill,” says St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO Jack de Groot.

“We have Vinnies shops in 225 locations throughout NSW which rely strongly on the generosity and goodwill of volunteers who give of their time to support the community.

“A lot has changed over the past 100 years but the core of Vinnies shops remains the same in giving items a second life and using the sales to help people who fall on hard times.”

Given additional increased pressures, now is the time to get involved, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW President Paul Burton says.

“Each year the Society is able to assist thousands of people thanks to the funds raised through our shops,” he said.

“We’re seeing a real demand for assistance at the moment due to the high cost of living, so it’s very important that our shops remain viable in order to continue meeting the needs of people who reach out in times of hardship.”

Other brands joining the centenary celebrations include Alex and Trahanas, Bassike, Blanca, Double Rainbouu, Dylan Kain, Ellery, Furla, Henne, Jac + Jack, Jets, Matteau, Mulberry, Mulberry x Acne Studios, Reliquia, Sarah Jane Clarke, to name a few.
