Singletonian and V8 Supercars driver Ryan Gilroy is raising money to support the survivors, victims and their immediate families, who were affected by the recent Greta bus tragedy.

On Sunday 11 June, a coach travelling from a Lovedale wedding to Singleton overturned at the roundabout on Wine Country Drive near the Hunter Expressway off ramp.

Now, in collaboration with Newcastle-based artist Jordan Lucky, Gilroy has commissioned a one-of-a-kind street art bonnet, honouring those impacted by the accident.

Lucky is a prominent creative, muralist, illustrator and digital designer, with notable artworks seen throughout New South Wales including many in Newcastle and the Hunter.

A fundraising event will take place at The Lucky Hotel on Sunday 2 July from 2pm.

Join Gilroy and Lucky for an afternoon of local art, music, food and drinks. The one-of-a-kind bonnet will be on display.

Gilroy will then race with the commemorative bonnet on his car, from 7-to-9 July at the 2023 Townsville 500.

It’ll be auctioned online by Grays.com from 1 July through to closing of the Townsville 500 on 9 July.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the fund co-managed by the NSW Government and Rotary Australia, which offers financial relief and support to survivors, victim, and their immediate families from the events of the fatal evening.

Sadly, 10 people – Nadene and Kyah McBride, Andrew and Lynan Scott, Kane Symons, Rebecca Mullen, Darcy Bulman, Zach Bray, Tori Cowburn and Angus Craig, most boasting connections to the Hunter and the Singleton Roosters AFL club – lost their lives.
