New committee brings glitz, glamour to 2023 Bean Counters Ball

A new committee is set to bring games, glitz and glamour to the annual Bean Counters Ball in 2023.

The much-loved function, a joint initiative between local members of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia, returns to NEX on Saturday 27 May, this time with a Las Vegas theme.

Guests will be treated to a night of entertainment, gaming tables and the event’s signature lucky dips and raffles to raise money for Newcastle-based charities Samaritans and Hunter TAFE Foundation.

Since its launch in 2011, the gala has amassed almost $250,000 for worthy causes.

The volunteer board recently welcomed a number of new faces to the fold, too.

Terra Infrastructure’s Gerhard Bierman was appointed chairperson for 2022/23, with SV Partners’ Daniel Drayton named co-chairperson.

Joining the committee this time around are Sally Bates (Allen & Overy), Lana Black (Osborn Law), Rebecca Brown (Hunter Water), Eleanor Farquar (Wine Selectors), Emily Lane (Lambourne Partners), Jackie Marriott (PKF), Matthew Page (MACH Energy), Ashleigh Simpson (PKF), Christian Southward (McCloy Group), Gemma Williams (Lambourne Partners), Haley Tibbetts (Samaritans) and Kate Taylor (Hunter TAFE Foundation).

“We’re looking forward to staging the event again following a triumphant return in 2022 after the pandemic,” Mr Bierman said.

“Last year was extremely successful with more than $35,000 raised for youth and education in the Hunter region.

“So, we are already planning a bigger and better event in 2023.”

Half of the coffers amassed from the Bean Counters Ball assists Samaritans Student Accommodation in Newcastle, which provides a safe place for pupils to live while they are completing their education.

The remaining funds are donated to the Hunter TAFE Foundation, delivering scholarships supporting youth education in business, accounting or finance.

“We’re proud to again partner with both of them,” Mr Bierman said.

“Each year, we hear from adolescents who have been supported by the charities, which continues to remind us of the opportunities the funding from the ball provides annually.

“The committee is dedicated to creating a memorable night of glitz, glamour and some games to help make a difference in the community.

“We hope the event can raise more funds than ever before with the help of our generous guests and sponsors.”

Tickets can be purchased through the Bean Counters Ball website either individually or for a table of 10 and includes beer and wine, a delicious three-course meal and entertainment.
