Do you love your music, past and present, or consider yourself a bit of a whiz when it comes to all things in that field?
If the answer is “yes”, then head to RocKwiz Live! Back on the Road 2023 at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Saturday 1 April from 7.30pm.
After a couple of years of COVID-interrupted stops and starts, hostess Julia Zemiro, comedian Brian Nankervis and the team – including Dugald and the RocKwiz Orkestra – will bring their special brand of entertainment to the Hunter.
And, if that’s not enough, they’re throwing in your favourite segments, a cracking collection of guests and some new surprises in the 155-minute show.
RocKwiz was born in 2002 when Renegade’s Ken Connor and Peter Bain-Hogg met with Nankervis to conceive a TV program that combined their mutual love of “live music” and pub trivia.
The format came together quickly and, before long, a pilot was planned and shot at Chapel Off Chapel in mid-2002 with the latter as host.
The very entertaining episode was shopped around but rejected by every network.
However, a change of management at SBS gave the opportunity to re-present the format and it was met more favourably.
But, a new host was needed… enter Julia Zemiro.
Two pilot episodes were shot on the same night in November 2004 and both ended up being added to the first commissioned series of 10, which aired in early 2005.
Ratings were solid and reaction was more than favourable.
So, a further 17 episodes were ordered, establishing a pattern of annual commissions that continued for more than a decade.
Now, after seven years off air, RocKwiz will make a comeback in 2023… on Foxtel.
