MasterChef favourite’s maiden book simply takes the cake

SHARE

Hamilton business owner and MasterChef Australia favourite Reece Hignell’s upcoming tome quite literally takes the cake.

And, his latest offering, Cakeboi: A Collection of Classic Bakes, provides step-by-step instructions on how to make the heirloom desserts passed down from his beloved Nan.

The popular local identity appeared on the 10th season of the much-loved TV program, before returning to compete in the 2020 Back to Win instalment, in which he finished in the Top five.

City of Newcastle director museum archive libraries and learning, Julie Baird, Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, Cakeboi owner and cookbook author Reece Hignell and councillor Carol Duncan prepare for the Cakeboi – Cake Off! high tea and book launch at Newcastle City Library this month.

Now, Hignell is set to launch his maiden cookbook at the Newcastle City Library on Saturday 19 November, between 1pm and 3pm, with a delicious high tea and “cake off”.

The mouth-watering free event will give people the opportunity to learn a little more about Newcastle’s rich baking history, savour some of his top tips and sample a few of his favourite recipes

Councillor Carol Duncan and Timberlina will join in the fun, helping Hignell decorate a velvet cake masterpiece while discussing Cakeboi: A Collection of Classic Bakes.

Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the city’s libraries delivered a diverse program of events and exhibitions to educate, entertain and enhance the experience of visiting your branch.

“From supporting local authors with book launches and signings to collaborating with the community on art exhibitions and history displays, our network of libraries provide a wonderful range of opportunities for lifelong learning and social and community connections,” she explained.

“I look forward to learning the secrets to cake baking success from Reece, who is not only a whiz in the kitchen but is also a passionate advocate for Newcastle and a wonderful ambassador for our city through his work with the Hamilton Business Improvement Association.”

Fans also have the chance to meet Hignell at a separate book signing at Wallsend Library, from 2pm to 3.30pm, on Sunday 20 November.
