Man caught with drugs, stolen goods at Thornton

A man has been caught with drugs and stolen goods following a vehicle stop at Thornton on Thursday morning.

About 3am on 29 June, police from the Port Stephens-Hunter Proactive Crime Team were patrolling the area when they located a car allegedly displaying altered plates on Thomas Coke Drive.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed property suspected to have been stolen during a recent break and enter at Rutherford and a small bag containing methamphetamine.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene before being taken to Maitland Police Station.

There, he was charged with possess prohibited drug, use class A vehicle displaying altered numberplate, possess vehicle part with altered/defaced etc part number, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court on Thursday 29 June.
