Picture this: The year is 1908 and 15,000 women working at a local garment factory begin marching through the streets of New York City fighting for fairer working conditions, better pay and voting rights.
It was a strike for change.
Believed to have followed years of frustration and oppression, the march was arguably the start of International Women’s Day (IWD), an annual date promoting the achievements of women.
The theme of IWD 2024 is ‘Invest in women: accelerate progress’.
Women from across the Hunter are expected to mark this important date (8 March) in a range of different ways, be it celebrating the achievements of those that have gone before us, planning best practice for our future women, or honouring those closest for winning personal, silent battles – all testament to the strengths of women.
