Dora Street set to undergo improvements at Morisset

In a coup for Lake Macquarie motorists, road improvements are set to begin on Dora Street at Morisset from this weekend.

The NSW Government is providing $2 million to fund essential maintenance work on the thoroughfare between Freemans Drive and east of Stockton Street to improve the road surface.

It also includes milling, profiling and asphalting about 800 metres along the way.

“This is a huge win for the 8,500 motorists who use this stretch of road every day,” Transport for NSW Regional Director North Anna Zycki said.

“Asphalt is one of the quietest, smoothest and safest road surfaces, so the treatment to this busy piece of road is a major benefit for everyone.

“Transport for NSW recently sought feedback on the proposed work schedule, with 19 submissions received.

“Of those 19, 12 were in support for work in the shorter duration of three weeks, seven had no preference, and none was in favour of work taking 10 weeks.

“Lake Macquarie City Council will carry out the operation on behalf of Transport for NSW, which includes resurfacing the road.

“We thank the community and motorists for their patience while we carry out this important project.”

Starting Sunday 24 March, work will be carried out from 7pm to 5am Sunday to Thursday.

“It is expected to be complete in three weeks, weather permitting,” Ms Zycki said.

“No work will be carried out on public holidays.

“Dora Street is scheduled to be reduced to one lane during work hours with alternating traffic conditions in place.”
