Motorists advised of changed traffic conditions at Hexham

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is set to undertake safety improvements on the Hexham Straight Widening project from this week.

The work will force changed traffic conditions on Maitland Road and Fenwick Street at Hexham.

That includes altered access arrangements, which are weather dependent.

From Monday 18 March, the right-hand turning lane into Fenwick Street from Maitland Road will be permanently closed.

“Motorists travelling from Maitland on Maitland Road are advised to use the Shamrock Street U-turn bay to access Fenwick and Merchant streets,” a TfNSW spokesperson said.

“Those heading towards Newcastle from Fenwick Street can turn left on Maitland Road and use the Old Maitland Road U-turn bay to venture back to Newcastle.

“A temporary construction speed zone of 60km/h remains in place.”

Meanwhile, work continues on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.

It will require lane closures and temporary speed reductions at the following locations and times:

  • Pacific Highway southbound intermittent speed reduction (vehicle escorts) north of Tomago Road 7am to 5pm, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March, and northbound and southbound lane closures from 7pm to 5am, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March
  • Lenaghans Drive alternating northbound and southbound lane and shoulder closure from 7am to 5pm, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March
  • John Renshaw Drive on ramp to New England Highway westbound shoulder closure with intermittent stoppages from 7am to 5pm, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March
  • M1 Pacific Motorway southbound lane closure and Lenaghans Drive northbound shoulder closure from 7pm to 5am, Monday 18 March and Thursday 21 March
  • New England Highway eastbound and westbound lane closures west of Tarro Interchange from 7pm to 5am, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March

“We urge motorists to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers,” the spokesperson said.
