SHARE

Local residents have been evacuated from a building, which is threatening to collapse at Tighes Hill on Friday.

Just before 8.30am on 21 April, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) personnel responded to reports of issues regarding a premises in Elizabeth Street.

The building, which was undergoing renovation, had developed large cracks on the front wall.

Firefighters immediately shut off the gas and electricity supply, before evacuating all residents, none of whom were injured.

They then established an exclusion zone to prevent the public entering the area, with Elizabeth Street closed down between Maitland Road and Union Street.

Firefighters, who specialise in structural collapse, have set-up a multi-agency command centre, too.

They are currently using laser monitoring equipment to assess and monitor the unstable front wall.

It’s not yet known when evacuated locals will be able to return to their homes.
