SHARE

It’s understood police have located the body of missing man Craig Wheatley following a multi-agency search near Cessnock.

Tuggerah Lakes Police District issued public appeals for information after the 48-year-old man disappeared from Doyalson on Friday 26 January.

He was last seen at a licensed venue about 3am.

When he could not be found, officers began inquiries into his whereabouts as his actions were out of character.

Mr Wheatley’s vehicle, a 2022 white Toyota Hilux Workmate, was located on a track off Georges Road in the Watagan State Forest about 8pm on Tuesday 30 January.

Then, during a coordinated operation, involving Hunter Valley Police District, PolAir, the Dog Unit, NSW RFS, VRA and NSW SES, a body was discovered in bushland in the same area about 2pm on Friday 2 February.

While it is yet to be formally identified, it’s believed to be that of Mr Wheatley.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
