Best Coffee in Newcastle

SHARE

If you’re looking for recommendations on the best coffee spots in our region, the team behind the Newcastle Weekly has got you covered.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Best coffee Newcastle – Darks Coffee Roasters.

Darks Coffee Roasters. It may just be a decked out caravan parked at the front of McDonald Jones Stadium, but ‘Darks’ is so much more to its regular coffee drinkers. Opening its roller door as early as 5.30am most mornings, the young team are consistently offer a positive start to the day, and if you’re anything like me a dark roast, in which I can taste the actual coffee, is the best caffeine kickstart.

The Globetrotter Coffee Bar, Bar Beach Bowling Club. Where many coffee haunts have either a great view or delicious coffee, The Globetrotter has both. Nestled on the Bathers Way strategically between the climb of Anzac Walk and the downhill to Merewether, this travelling van of coffee goodness is both funky and home to the best coffee in Newcastle.

Best coffee Newcastle – try a little further afield at Morning Market in Whitebridge.

Morning Market Coffee, Whitebridge. Located little more than 4km from Redhead Beach and 1.2km from Dudley Beach, you’ll often find locals calling in for a fresh brew on their way home from a surf or swim. This is also a popular pitstop for four-legged friends on their way to or from the Fernleigh Track. It’s open every day and its freshly baked goods offer a tempting side hustle to the good coffee you came to buy.

The Yoga Place, Blacksmiths. I’m willing to travel for the right brew, and when it comes with a vibe as good as the one at The Yoga Place then I’m completely zen about that. Tucked away off the main drag means only those in the know know about this beautiful secret, which is good because they are known to take their time getting the coffee just right and you wouldn’t want tourists rushing that process.

Estabar, Shortland Esplanade, Newcastle. There’s only one thing better than waking up looking at Newcastle Beach, and that is waking up looking at Newcastle Beach with a coffee from Estabar. Coffee any way you like it is served by a team that appear to be experts at helping you ease into your day gently.

Best Coffee Newcastle – Don’t go past Cooks Hill – Baba Yaga.

Baba Yaga, Darby Street, Cooks Hill. Open seven days a week from 6am this pastel-coloured hole in the wall is named after Slavic folklore, famed for friendly chats, and that’s what you can expect to find on one of Newcastle’s most popular eating and shopping strips. It’s a bonus that the coffee is rich and creamy.

Sherwood Coffee, Kahibah. There’s not much on this little neighbourhood shopping strip, but there is great coffee. Sherwood Coffee the brand has since extended to other suburbs, but its team at Kahibah are committed to offering a comfortable space and consistently good coffee.

The George Espresso, Georgetown. Its motto is ‘Good brews, beats, bites and banter’. Open every morning this place is for those that need a kickstart in the mornings. Once the team get to know you expect some cheeky teasing while they dish up freshly brewed coffee.

Best Coffee Newcastle – sitting pretty in the top ten is Ground Up Espresso in Carrington (aka Carrodise)

Ground Up Espresso, Carrington. You might already know that locals in Carrington like to call their island home ‘Carrodise’, but did you know they are also passionate about people visiting to try their country hospitality. This is a suburb that likes to be considered ‘community’ and it loves to offer a chat, some colour and a good brew to anyone that enters its community.

Slingtown Espresso, Islington. Formerly Suspension Espresso, this cafe has recently changed names to honour its home suburb of Islington. Owned by the same team of the last 16 years, they have recently switched roasters but are still serving coffee to the same standard as always.
