Novocastrian Cody Marshall has won gold in the World Wakeboarding Association’s 30th anniversary titles in Cancun, Mexico.

At just 10 years old, he’s marked milestones most people his age could only dream of.

Cody managed to beat second place by 2.67 points after scoring an impressive 83.67 in the final heat.

“It was really stiff competition and a lot of fun,” he says.

Cody has been wakeboarding for the past four years and says it all started because they “lived on a lake.”

He says he loves the sport because “you’re always having fun and you feel the wind going through your hair.”

The adrenaline-filled sport has seen Cody lock in three major sponsors –  Liquid Force, Masterline and Marshalls Timber – and travel around the world.

Last year, Cody went to Japan to compete in the titles, but narrowly came second.

His mum Amy says the experience in Asia drove his determination to win this time around.

Cody says winning the competition “is a little exciting” and it has fuelled his ambition.

His wakeboarding dreams don’t stop with this title, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his favourite wakeboarder Harley Clifford and win seven world titles.
