Three charged after police officers assaulted at Windale

Three men have been charged with numerous offences, including assaulting police, following an incident at Lake Macquarie overnight.

About 12.40am on Saturday 25 November, police from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling Myall Street, Windale, when they made inquiries at a property regarding the riding of unregistered motorbikes.

At the address, a 27-year-old man allegedly attempted to evade officers.

However, he was arrested a short time later.

Police will claim in court that while they affected the arrest, a 33-year-old male threw an object at an officer, resulting in a laceration to his head.

The Constable was taken to hospital for treatment.

Soon after, a 29-year-old man threw an object at another officer.

Thankfully, on this occasion, the Senior Constable was uninjured.

The other men were arrested and all three were taken to Belmont Police Station.

The 27-year-old was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, possess prohibited drug, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Sunday 26 November.

The 33-year-old was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

The 29-year-old was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

Both were granted strict conditional bail to appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 13 December.
