Newcastle author empowering girls as they transition to high school

Moving from primary to secondary school can be a shock for any youngster, particularly females.

However, a new offering from a Newcastle-based author is set to alleviate that blow.

A Girls Guide To Starting High School will not only concentrate on that vital transition, but also focus on the exciting phase of growing into an adult.

The interactive book includes topics of navigating tricky friendship situations, building confidence and resilience, getting in a learning mindset, looking after themselves physically, social media and key advice from women who share what they wish they knew before starting high school.

New Lambton’s Chloe Blake said the publication was targeted for girls aged 10 to 12 years.

“I’m hoping it becomes their ‘silent bestie’ to get in the mindset, build confidence and resilience for a new stage of life,” the mother-of-three explained.

“My daughter Libby started high school in 2020 and it was much harder for her and myself as a parent than I had ever thought it would be.

“So, this book is the perfect resource to provide the tools to help navigate the difficult transition to high school.

“These young girls are going from big fish in a small pond to tiny fish in a very large lake.

“The more knowledge they have to support themselves, the more mentally healthy they’ll be.”

Ms Blake’s passion for supporting young girls goes beyond national borders, donating 20% of the proceeds of each book to One Girl Charity, who breaks down the barriers that girls face in accessing a quality education by running programs in Sierra Leone and Uganda.

A Girls Guide To Starting High School is available at most major online book retailers including Booktopia, Amazon, QBD, Dymocks and Angus & Robertson.
