More events and festivals on the agenda for Lake Macquarie

SHARE

Cedar Mill, Black Rock Motor Resort, Trinity Resort and Hunter Sports Centre are just a few of the venues expected to lure visitors to Lake Macquarie over the coming years.

Teamed with events like Float Your Boat, Let’s Fish and Fast and Loud, thousands of people will venture to the region, providing an economic impact to the tune of $30 million.

The tourism drawcards were among the focal points of the draft Lake Macquarie Events and Festivals Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028.

The approved proposal is now out for public exhibition.

The plan aims to deliver a minimum of 20 signature events for the city, with a spend of more than $600,000 per year across all offerings.

Float Your Boat
Float your Boat is one of Lake Macquarie’s popular annual winter events.

Lake Macquarie City mayor Kay Fraser said the plan sought to embrace infrastructure opportunities and attract diverse new events to the city.

“Our ever-expanding annual calendar of events, combined with our support for numerous community, sporting and entertainment gatherings, has grown Lake Mac’s reputation as a hub for memorable experiences and adventures,” she explained.

“This plan outlines how we can expand on our successful 2022-2023 events program, which delivered about $28 million in economic benefits with 345,000 people attending 406 key activations.”

The proposal seeks to capitalise on the lake and region’s natural assets, bid for more “foot loose” events likely to attract larger out of region visitation, and stimulate the night-time economy.

The community is invited to view the plan and provide feedback during the 28-day public exhibition period.

Lake Mac Libraries are also to get a boost from council following the approval of the Lake Mac Libraries kawumalyikilba Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028.

It is hoped the plan will formalise Lake Macquarie City’s commitment to championing literacy and recognising the vital role libraries play across the city.

The Lake Mac Libraries kawumalyikilba Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028 is on public exhibition now.
