Man dies following drowning incident near Nelson Bay

Despite everyone’s best efforts, a man has died following a drowning near Nelson Bay at the weekend.

Just after 12.40pm on Saturday 21 October, emergency services were called to Boat Harbour.

It followed concerns for a man’s welfare.

Police were told the male had been swept into the water off the point of Boat Harbour at the time of incident.

Surf Life Saving NSW retrieved him from the water.

However, the 71-year-old died at the scene.

An investigation into the circumstance surrounding the incident has started, while a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
