SHARE

A man will appear in court today after being charged with murder following an assault in Newcastle last night.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to Beresfield Train Station just before 6pm on Monday 12 December.

There, they found a 39-year-old man critically injured on the platform.

Trains were then directed to bypass the station as officers continued their inquiries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the male, however he died at the scene.

A short time later, police arrested a 27-year-old and took him to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with murder.

The Newcastle man has been refused bail and is due to appear at Maitland Local Court on Tuesday 13 December.
