It’s a day that’s origins are believed to date back to 1911, when only eight countries afforded women the right to vote, earn equal pay for equal work, and have say over their reproductive rights.
It has since become an occasion in which females recognise how far they have come towards gender equality and also imagine a world in which they are free from bias, sterotypes and discrimination.
Designed as a date to celebrate women’s achievements, it also raises awareness about how far equality has yet to come.
Already, several events have been conducted, including the Got Your Back Sista luncheon while many others will take place throughout the Hunter this month, marking International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023.
Here are a few dates that are designed to encourage the amazing women of Newcastle and its surrounds to celebrate all that it means to be a woman.
