Hunter Street Mall welcomes new community garden

SHARE

The beautification of Hunter Street Mall is continuing with the unveiling of a new vertical smart garden in the heart of the CBD.

Herb Urban, a local business that creates sustainable innovative precincts in partnership with City of Newcastle (CN), proudly revealed its newest project, The Little Green, between Jayes Travel and Ka-fey Café.

It allows locals and visitors alike to enjoy herbs, veggies and ornamentals easily, making it simple and accessible to connect people to their food sources.

The community garden also features a state-of-the-art design, which combines smart technology and lush greenery, creating the perfect blend of form and function.

Herb Urban founder Jared Lawlor said the venture came to life, thanks to funding from CN’s SBR (Special Business Rate) initiative.

“We are thrilled to bring this new automated community garden to Newcastle,” he explained.

“Our mission is to make sustainable living simple and accessible to everyone.

“So, we believe The Little Green will provide a unique opportunity for people to connect with nature and grow their food sustainably.”

To further support the public, the garden also includes a community noticeboard with access to online resources, offering tips and tricks for gardening.

“We worked alongside local artist Clare O’Hara to create the information display,” Mr Lawlor said.

“And, we’re delighted with how it looks.

“The Little Green is now open to everyone.

“So, the community is invited to come and experience this innovative and sustainable addition to the city.”
