Hunter drivers urged to take extra care as rain wreaks havoc on roads

SHARE

Drivers are being reminded to take extra care on the roads this morning.

The warning comes as multiple vehicle accidents are being reported across the Hunter.

After an earlier ten-vehicle crash brought traffic to a stand-still in Tarro, there has been an increasing number of reports of other road accidents within the region.

As rain is set to continue well into next week, emergency services say it is a timely reminder to allow extra travel time and exercise extra caution when driving on wet roads.

Thursday 24 March:

6:31am – Ten vehicle crash near Hexham Bridge, Tarro closes all lanes of Pacific Highway in both directions. Two treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment. One male driver and his dog freed from truck by Fire and Rescue NSW.

8:01am – Two vehicle crash in Cameron Park at the intersection of Hunter Expressway and Newcastle Link Road – east of M1 Pacific Motorway (Newcastle Interchange). Tow trucks working to clear the site. Emergency services in attendance.

8:12am – Two car crash Fern Bay on Nelson Bay Road near Seaside Boulevard. Traffic affected in both directions. Emergency services and tow trucks dispatched.

1:59pm – The Pacific Highway northbound lanes were closed and vehicles heading between Newcastle and Brisbane encouraged to find alternate route after a motorcycle and car collided in Tea Gardens.
