Nestled in Hunter Street CBD, Humbug is a contemporary Italian restaurant that has been warmly received by the locals of Newcastle.

Passionate about food and wine, Michael Portley and Stephanie Wells blessed Newcastle with their culinary expertise at the start of 2022 and has been a fan-favourite between locals and travelling visitors ever since.

Not to be confused for the phrase ‘Bah Humbug’, the true meaning of the restaurant lies deeply in their love of music and bringing people together. Where Humbug is originally referenced by Stephanie and Michael from an Arctic Monkeys album.

“Humbug references our love for music and bringing people together. It is also playful and we love that it leaves us open to interpretation for cuisine and ambience and everything in between.”

As you stroll down Hunter Street, it is difficult to miss the eclectic and vibrant Humbug signage that revives the main district of Newcastle. Once the signage pulls you in, find yourself immersed in an art-filled, modern Italian pasta joint that doesn’t complicate things. Wine, pasta, snacks. There is no room for error while having something for everyone.
