The Hunter’s talented young vocalists were in fine voice at Choralfest Newcastle this month, with a number of schools reaping the spoils.

Students from throughout the region took to the stage at the Warners Bay Theatre, with the judges thoroughly impressed with the outstanding performances.

The Hunter School of Performing Arts (HSPA) captured seven divisions, while the Belmont Community of Schools (BCoS) Singers picked up first place in the High School Choir Mixed – Harmony and K-12 Combined Public Schools Choir categories.

Charlestown South Primary and Coal Point Public also produced the goods when it counted.

“We were thrilled with everyone’s efforts, which resulted in several Highly Commended awards, too,” said coordinator Chris Blake from Islington Public School.

“Choralfest celebrates singing through primary and secondary public school vocal ensembles and is for the enjoyment and enrichment of all ages.

“So, the festival offers a great opportunity for choristers to showcase their developing skills, observe other performances and receive constructive feedback from recognised musical experts.

“It aims to provide a learning experience for pupils from Kindergarten to Year 12 through listening and performance, in a fun and friendly atmosphere.”

Attention now turns to Star Struck Ignite 2023 next month.

The Newcastle Entertainment Centre is expected to shine brightly when more than 3,500 dance and drama students from the Hunter and Central Coast perform on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 June.

Also joining the extravaganza are 100 featured dancers; a 500-plus combined choir; 100 music pupils including vocalists, backing singers, orchestra members and rock bands; and more than 30 VET entertainment students gaining first-hand professional experience.
