Forty-four new COVID-19 cases detected in HNELHD

The Hunter New England COVID-19 cluster is edging closer to a total of 4,000 cases since 5 August after another 44 were detected overnight.

In the district there are currently 758 active infections with 14 people requiring care in hospital, three are in ICU.

The Newcastle LGA found seven cases in Birmingham Gardens (three), Waratah (two), Maryland and North Lambton.

Four were discovered in Abermain, putting Cessnock on the list while Lake Macquarie detected three in Belmont North, Cameron Park and Windale.

The Port Stephens and Maitland LGAs both added cases with infections in Glen Oak, Lemon Tree Passage and Rutherford.

The remaining discoveries are in the Mid Coast (19), Tamworth (six), Inverell and Moree Plains LGAs.

Thirty-two were infectious in the community and the 32 are linked to existing exposures of clusters.

The Hunter New England Local Health District continues to urge people to come forward for testing and vaccination.

NSW, as a whole, reported 231 new cases.

There are currently 207 people admitted to hospital, with 33 in intensive care, 15 of whom require ventilation.

Across the state, 94.2 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received their first dose of a vaccine, and 91.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Of people aged 12 to 15, 73.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.
