FLASHBACK: When Taylor Swift visited Newcastle

As Taylor Swift arrives in Sydney for the Australian leg of her Eras tour, it is fitting to reminisce the time when the star graced the stage at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in 2010.

It was 8 February, when the emerging superstar performed in Newcastle while touring the world for her latest album of the time Fearless.

This album marked the beginning of her transition from being a country music sensation to a mainstream pop princess.

Played for Newcastle Swifties, the album won Grammys for Album of the Year and Best Country Album and topped the charts for several weeks.

Swift’s Fearless world tour consisted of five stops throughout Australia (Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, and Adelaide). Sadly, Eras is only slated for Sydney and Melbourne.

The then 20-year-old performed her latest hits from the album such as You Belong with Me and Love Story to her fans in Newcastle.

Swift will also play these tracks in her current tour as she revisits her Fearless “era” in Sydney this weekend.

The only difference being the ticket prices and sold-out stadiums.

Swiftmania has taken Australia by storm, with scarce tickets to her shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Fans are being warned to not purchase them through social media, either.

The Swift mania has taken Australia by storm.

And, with crowds of 300,000 expected in Sydney, Swifties travelling from the Hunter and Central Coast should plan swiftly with scheduled track work on rail lines from Newcastle to Sydney.

Wondering who else has played at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre?

Swift’s followed in the footsteps of Tina Arena, Cher, Celine Dion, Powderfinger, Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue over the years.

More recently, we’ve hosted Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and P!NK at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Now, Novocastrians are wondering, who is the next big act to visit Newy?

One thing’s for sure, it’s unlikely to be Tay Tay anytime soon.
