What’s On: Seven things to do in the Hunter this weekend

SHARE

Will it rain or won’t it? It’s becoming a hourly gamble in the Hunter, but the temperature is slowly rising and there’s no need to hide indoors anymore.

With a list that includes shopping, cheering, eating, fixing and spinning, the region is sure to have an activity that interests you this weekend.

Here’s our top seven:

HOME GAME

The Newcastle Knights will take on the Sydney Roosters in a Round 19 clash at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday from 7.30pm.

TRUE CRIME

Lovers of true crime can revisit the scenes of some of Maitland’s most infamous transgressions on Friday when the city hosts the first of its True Crime Tours from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Visitors can retrace the steps of criminals, reliving some of the city’s darkest times.

The tour begins at the Station Street side of the Maitland Train Station.

OUTDOOR FEAST

Rug up and tuck into a warm feast outside the Maitland Gaol as the city hosts its monthly Street Eats from 5pm to 8pm.

As food trucks pump out enough to fill the belly, live musicians will supply the tunes.

HUMAN NATURE

Human Nature are set to impress crowds – again, with they perform their ‘Live 2022 Rebooted’ show for audiences at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Friday night.

FIX IT

Clothes, hand tools, small electrical items and small pieces of furniture can all gain a new lease of life on Saturday when a group of volunteers open The Repair Cafe at the Rathmines Theatre. Between 10am and 1pm the team of fixers will attempt to avoid sending repairable items to landfill by engaging their talents and tools for community members.

IN A SPIN

Vinyl lovers will be in a spin this weekend as The Hunter Record Fair returns to the Kotara High School Auditorium  between 9am and 4pm on Saturday. After a COVID-forced hiatus the annual event promises a huge array of bargains, rarities, LPs, 45s and more.

GOTTA HAVE SOUL

Soul Kollective is hosting a new market in Carrington this Sunday.  The group of stallholders will take their homemade goods on the road, selling them within the walls of the old Carrington Fruit Factory on Cowper Street from 10am to 4pm.

Goodies on offer will include new and pre-loved clothes, candles, homewares, baby items, skincare, jewellery, and dog collars to name a few.
