Stay-at-home orders extended in Hunter as 82 new cases recorded

Stay-at-home orders will be extended until 11 October for several local government areas (LGAs) in the Hunter due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health risk.

It comes after another 82 cases were detected in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) in the past 24 hours.

That lifts the tally to 322 in the region alone in less than a week.

The lockdown extensions apply to Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Newcastle and Port Stephens LGAs, which join Bathurst, Bourke, Central Coast, Dubbo, Goulburn Mulwaree, Kiama, Lithgow, Queanbeyan-Palerang, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee.

The Lake Macquarie LGA registered another 21 infections overnight throughout Edgeworth, Woodrising, Windale, Belmont South, Toronto, Cooranbong, Mirrabooka, Booragul, Charlestown, Dudley, Gateshead, Glendale, Belmont, Marks Point and Murrays Beach.

Incredibly, 19 cases were in the Cessnock LGA: at Kurri Kurri, Weston, Cliftleigh, Cessnock, Heddon Greta, Kitchener, Laguna and Neath.

Seventeen were detected in the Newcastle LGA, via Wallsend, Mayfield, New Lambton, Newcastle, Merewether, Tarro, Adamstown, Hamilton South, Mayfield East, Waratah West and Rankin Park.

The Maitland LGA also rose to 17, with infections at Woodberry (12), Rutherford, Thornton, East Maitland, South Maitland and Farley.

Four each were recorded in the Port Stephens (Raymond Terrace, Fern Bay, Medowie) and Mid-Coast LGAs (Gloucester, Pampoolah).

Meanwhile, NSW registered 941 a further locally-acquired cases to 8pm last night.

The total number of infections in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 62,164.

NSW Health reported the deaths of six people with COVID-19 – four men and two women.

Three were in their 70s, two in their 80s, and one was in their 90s.

Two of them were from south-western Sydney, while the others were from Sydney’s inner west, western Sydney, south-eastern Sydney and north-western Sydney.

Four people were not vaccinated and two had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
