Well, here’s a few tips courtesy of the Newcastle Weekly.

WHAT: Hudsons Circus

WHERE: Richardson Park, Hamilton North

WHEN: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 25, 26 and 27 June

TIME: 7pm (Friday), 4pm and 7pm (Saturday), 11am and 2pm (Sunday)

The famous Hudsons Circus has set up its big top in Newcastle from now until 18 July. The circus – at Richard Park, Chatham Road, Hamilton North – features two hours of performance shows with international artists, world record holders, an Australia’s Got Talent star and much more. This is fun entertainment the whole family will love. It’s open on Friday 25 June (7pm), Saturday 26 June (4pm and 7pm) and Sunday 27 June (11am and 2pm). WHAT: I Love Lambton – 150th anniversary

WHERE: Elder Street Lambton retailers

WHEN: Saturday 26 June

TIME: 9am until 1pm

Head along to the closing weekend of Love Lambton, a celebration of 150 years of Lambton as a suburb. On Saturday 26 June, you can catch Elder Street’s Big One Day Sale – from 9am until 1pm – and moving theatre, a celebration lunch at Lizotte’s featuring a special acoustic performance from iconic Aussie talent Diesel, and the Love Lambton night at Lambton Bowling Club. On Sunday 27 June, celebrate and picnic at Lambton’s 150th birthday in Lambton Park. Revel in the atmosphere while enjoying Five Senses foodie trucks, wineries and beers, kid’s entertainment, soccer displays, local folk groups and live moving theatre. Enjoy plentiful music including a special guest appearance from Kate Ceberano.

WHAT: Newcastle Rebels

WHERE: Maitland Sportsground

WHEN: Saturday 26 June

TIME: Matches start from 11am

The best players from Tooheys Newcastle Rugby League (Real NRL) will tackle Canberra in the Tri Series at the Maitland Sportsground. On an action-packed program, four under-17 sides – Maitland, Lakes United, Western Suburbs and Cessnock – are scheduled to take the field from 11am. Then the Adam Hall-coached Newcastle Rebels under-20s lock horns with Canberra at 1.30pm. The main fixture, featuring Aaron Watts’ Rebels seniors taking on Canberra, kicks off at 3pm. The Real NRL will also throw its support behind the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF), with entry to the venue by way of a donation. Beanies will be sold on the day to assist with further fundraising, too.

WHAT: Love My Plants

WHERE: 101 Newcastle Street, East Maitland

WHEN: Sunday 27 June

TIME: 10am until 4pm

Love My Plants will host its official grand opening on Sunday 27 June between 10am and 4pm. There’ll be market stalls, create your own workstations, indoor plant care talks, giveaways, face painting and, of course, discounts on plants storewide. The premises is located at 101 Newcastle Street.

WHAT: Tall Poppy

WHERE: Event Cinemas Kotara

WHEN: Sunday 27 June

TIME: From 3.15pm

On Sunday afternoon, head along to Event Cinemas Kotara to catch the movie premiere of Tall Poppy, a new feature documentary about Novocastrian and Olympic skateboarder Poppy Starr Olsen. The screening will start at 4pm with red carpet and doors opening from 3.15pm. After the screening, Poppy will join in live via Zoom from her Olympic training centre in San Diego. “City of Newcastle is proud to support the Tall Poppy film premiere, profiling a remarkable local skater, Poppy Starr Olsen,” Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said. “We have worked closely with Poppy and our local skate community in the development of new skate infrastructure in Newcastle and know how passionate she is about her sport. She has shown grit and determination to get where she is today and we’re confident she has what it takes to succeed at the highest level. We wish her all the best in her ongoing campaign to compete at this year’s Tokyo Olympics and hope this film inspires a new generation of skaters across the country.”
