Man charged after stabbing at Broadmeadow train station

A Bar Beach man has now been charged after stabbing another male at a Newcastle train station on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Broadmeadow about 10.15am on 14 April.

It followed reports a man had suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he’s reported to be in a stable condition.

Officers from Police Transport Command responded, deploying OC spray to effect the arrest of a second man outside the station.

He was taken to Mater Hospital under police guard.

Then, later that day, the 25-year-old was discharged before being arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Saturday 15 April.

Newcastle City Police District continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
