One death as cases spike in HNELHD

The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has experienced another jump in COVID-19 cases.

It comes as 1,242 were recorded overnight – an increase of more than 500 in comparison to yesterday’s 736.

Tragically, the region also recorded another death after a Cessnock man in his 90s passed away with the virus.

Across the district 35 people with COVID-19 are in hospital, two of those are in ICU.

NSW as a whole reported 8,752 new cases and the deaths of 14 people – 11 men and three women.

Four people were in their 60s, one person was in their 70s, five were in their 80s and four people were in their 90s.

Four had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, seven people had received two and three people were not vaccinated.

Across the state there are currently 1,293 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 71 people in intensive care, 31 of whom require ventilation.
