McDonald’s sinks its teeth into Cardiff

SHARE

Lake Macquarie will soon be home to another McDonald’s outlet, which is expected to inject more than $5 million into the local economy.

But, the decision to open a restaurant in Cardiff, at 45 Pendlebury Road, hasn’t impressed everyone, with numerous residents voicing their displeasure on social media.

Many believe the area doesn’t need a further “Golden Arches” option, as Macca’s already boasts a presence in Warners Bay, Glendale, Morisset, Cameron Park, Belmont, Swansea, Edgeworth, Charlestown, Toronto, Bennetts Green and Windale.

However, despite their objections, work will begin on the fast-food premises that has the potential to create in excess of 200 jobs for construction personnel and restaurant employees.

It’ll be fitted with modern décor and feature a dual lane drive-thru, dedicated partner delivery room, McCafé and PlayPlace for customers to enjoy, as well as wheel stops containing recycled materials in the carpark.

Solar panels, a heat recovery water system and LED lights, helping to reduce emissions and energy use in the eatery, are part of the plan, too.

McDonald’s Cardiff will be owned and operated by licensee Hayden Smith, who now employs more than 750 members of the community across five existing outlets in Belmont, Glendale, Tuggerah, Swansea and Wyong.

“We are excited to start construction on a new restaurant in Lake Macquarie,” he said.

“It will create 100 construction jobs, as well as a further 100 operational positions once it opens.”

Mr Smith is the current New South Wales, Australian and World ironman champion in masters surf lifesaving.

So, he’s passionate about sport and its role in shaping young leaders… and looking to support local sporting clubs in the Lake Macquarie region.

“McDonald’s Cardiff is committed to playing an active role in the local community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities,” he said.

“We’re also keen to assist regional charities and groups that are important to our customers and people.

“We look forward to serving up our great tasting, great quality menu once the restaurant opens later this year.

“At the moment, we’re currently hiring a variety of crew, barista, management and maintenance roles in restaurants across Lake Macquarie.”
