A Glendale interchange, the Freight Rail Bypass from Fassifern to Newcastle, a Morisset Town Centre Hub and an indoor sporting facility at Toronto are just some of the projects Lake Macquarie election candidate Rosmairi Dawson hopes will get her across the line on 4 December.

The former councillor announced her intention to run for mayor and West Ward councillor as the only Independent candidate via social media.

Ms Dawson aims to return to council after having successfully previously held the role of West Ward councillor from 2012 until 2016 under Greg Piper’s former Independent Lake Alliance.

In addition to her previous council work, her experience extends to her various roles of community work and advocacy for the West Ward of Lake Macquarie over the past 15 years.

She has also spent the past nine as the PCYC Morisset club manager and has been secretary at the Morisset Showground Community Operating Committee since its inauguration.

Ms Dawson promised to work with her counterparts to deliver much-needed promised infrastructure.

“I will work with fellow councillors to deliver as many projects as I can during this term to enhance our cities economic development, accessibility, environmental sustainability and local community projects and events,” she said.

“With my fellow councillors in conciliation and through discussion I aim to bring forward and deliver vital infrastructure and planning for our city with particular concentration on the South and West of Lake Macquarie.”

Key city-wide and regional initiatives on Ms Dawson’s agenda include projects such as the Glendale Interchange, Freight Rail Bypass from Fassifern to Newcastle, as well as the development of programs and facilities in relation to arts and culture, sustainability, economic development within the city.

In addition, projects for West Ward include supporting the delivery of the Morisset Town Centre Hub and a bypass, an indoor sporting facility for youth and community at Toronto, as well as investigating shared pathway projects and the Footpath Strategy.

A detailed plan and full list of projects is available on her website.

Ms Dawson believes her campaign will “highlight her support of a vibrant and sustainable future for Lake Macquarie residents, with an aim to build trust and support through her love and passion of the community, being a local resident who is independent of any pollical affiliations.”

The upcoming local elections are set to take place on 4 December.
