Knights organise memorabilia auction to raise funds for those affected by Greta bus tragedy

Are you keen to own NRL superstar Kalyn Ponga’s custom-made Nike boots?

If the answer is “yes”, then here’s your chance to do so.

The classy fullback and his fellow Newcastle Knights have initiated a memorabilia auction to support those impacted by the Greta bus tragedy.

It’s been a month since the Hunter Valley was rocked by the news that 10 lives were lost following a fateful coach accident in the late hours of Sunday 11 June.

Sadly, Nadene and Kyah McBride, Andrew and Lynan Scott, Kane Symons, Rebecca Mullen, Darcy Bulman, Zach Bray, Tori Cowburn and Angus Craig died when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at the roundabout on Wine Country Drive near the Hunter Expressway off ramp.

Another 25 people were transported to hospitals in Maitland, Newcastle and Sydney, suffering a range of injuries.

The Knights staged a couple of heartfelt tributes, including a minute’s silence, almost immediately after the incident.

Now, the players are donating special items, personal to them, to raise funds to help the victims and survivors’ families.

Each will include a Certificate of Authenticity, plus, the opportunity to meet and greet the relevant NRL star at the Centre of Excellence, upon collection.

So far, Ponga’s footwear is deemed the most popular, but also available are signed Queensland Maroons, 2023 Indigenous and Jacob Saifiti’s 2022 NSW Blues State of Origin jerseys; Bradman Best’s away, Adam Elliott’s 2023 Indigenous and Lachlan Miller’s Rugby Sevens 2020 Tokyo Olympics jumpers; and the boots of Dylan Lucas (Puma), Jayden Brailey (Asics), Tyson Gamble (Asic), Elliott (Nike), Lachlan Fitzgibbon (Puma), Enari Tuala (Nike), Brodie Jones (Asics), Jack Hetherington (Asics) and Mat Croker (Asics).

The auction will continue until 5pm on Monday 17 July.
