It’s time to nominate a local hero

SHARE

Do you know someone who is working hard within your community?

If your answer to that question is yes, it’s time to nominate them for the Westfield Local Heroes program.

For its fifth consecutive year, the initiative is hoping to shine a light on individuals who positively impact their community or environment by raising awareness of their work and providing a platform for community recognition.

Former Hunter-based heroes include Aimee Blacker from Surfing the Spectrum, Monica Halliday from Fight 4 Connar, Got Your Back Sista’s Melissa Histon-Browning, Luke Conners from #talk2mebro and so many others.

This year, the program will see three finalists selected for the Westfield Kotara branch, the community is then invited vote.

The winning hero will be awarded $20,000 for the group or organisation they represent, and each finalist will receive a $5,000 grant for their work.

“The Westfield Local Heroes program is dedicated to celebrating the work of individuals and their organisations who have made a transformative and long-lasting impact in the lives of their local communities,” Scentre Group National community experience manager, Pam Wilson said.

“We’re proud to continue growing the program and fostering strong relationships with community organisations, including our alumni.

“If you know someone who has made outstanding contributions to their community, visit the Westfield website to nominate them as a Westfield Local Hero.”

You can nominate individuals who support the community in any field, including:

  • Family and Youth Support
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Inclusion and Equity
  • Community resilience
  • Environmental sustainability

It could be an emergency service first responder, charity leader, essential worker or educator.

There are no restrictions on previous nominees, finalists or heroes being nominated again and nominees only need one nomination to be considered for the assessment process.

Nominations will close on 21 March.

The community vote will be held between the 2 and 22 August, with the grant recipients announced on 13 September.
