Matt and Brett: The magic of holiday travel

SHARE

Holidays and travel have been an important part of both of our lives from an early age.

It didn’t start with exotic destinations but we both looked forward to our annual family pilgrimages to the beach.

For me (Matt) it was our two weeks every January on the Gold Coast.

It was never a flash apartment on the beach, we stayed mostly in the back blocks in low rise, but there was always a pool and the one night out at a fancy restaurant (well, I think it was actually the Bavarian Steakhouse for anyone who remembers that).

For Brett, it was packing up the Jayco pop-top and heading to Port Macquarie or Ballina for the annual dose of caravan park life, catching up with the same families each year for lazy BBQs and waiting for the sun to go down so the game of spotlight could start.

That’s what makes travel so magic and precious, the memories that money just can’t buy.

The funny thing is that although we looked forward to them, the holidays didn’t seem like much at the time.

However as time moves on, we look back so fondly on the memories of the experiences had on those childhood holidays.

That’s what makes travel so magic and precious, the memories that money just can’t buy.

Long after the kids forget what latest fad they got for Christmas, they remember what happened on the holiday that followed.

Now as adults, we are lucky enough to get to travel far and often, but the feeling is the same.

That experience that you plan and save for creates the memory that is priceless and lasts forever, or at least long after the tan has faded and the credit card has been paid off.

It’s a magic that we remember to be grateful for all the time and is what makes travel such a joyful experience for us.

Have you got your next holiday planned?

Maybe it’s time to grab a cocktail and dust off the travel bucket list.
