A Speers Point man is due to appear before court following a police pursuit, which ended in a crash at Wallsend on Wednesday.
About 6.55am on 25 October, officers from Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop a Volkswagen Polo on Newcastle Road for the purpose of a random breath test.
When the driver failed to obey directions, a pursuit was initiated.
Police will allege that as the Volkswagen approached the intersection of Metcalfe and Thomas Street, Wallsend, it collided with another two vehicles.
The occupants of those vehicles did not report any injuries to officers at the time of the incident.
The Volkswagen driver then fled the scene and was arrested nearby a short time later.
The 23-year-old man was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for assessment, before being escorted to Waratah Police Station.
There, he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, not give particulars to other driver, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not m/v), and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
After being refused bail, he’ll appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 26 October.
