Family fun at Briar Ridge this October long weekend

SHARE

There’s plenty of fun to be had at Briar Ridge Vineyard, in Mount View, this October long weekend.

To celebrate 50 years in the Hunter Valley wine industry, the “classically radical” winery will not only host its inaugural warehouse sale but offer treats for the kids, Italian homestyle cooking, entertainment and much more on Saturday and Sunday.

Briar Ridge recently tasted success by claiming a number of plaudits, including the Halliday Wine Companion Award for Other White (& Blends) Wine of the Year with its 2021 Limited Release Albariño and the 2022 International Cool Climate Wine Show Top Gold honour for its 2020 Big Bully Cabernet Sauvignon.

To top it off, winemaker Alex Beckett was named the 2022 Hunter Valley Legends Awards – Young Achiever of the Year.

Owner Jaclyn Davis is excited at the trajectory of the winery.

“We are so lucky to have Alex as our winemaker,” she said.

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of innovative wine techniques, firmly supported by traditions that go back five decades this year.

“Welcoming visitors to our cellar door and making sure that their experiences are more than they expect is important to the whole team.

“A beautiful landscape, award-winning wines, delicious food and great entertainment backed up with some fabulous deals makes for a perfect weekend.”

Now, in a first for Briar Ridge, warehouse manager Rebecca Irvine will throw open the doors for a behind-the-scenes sale.

“We’ve uncovered a pile of hidden gems, vintage lots and bin ends while forklifting around the premises,” she said.

“We’re letting our cellar door visitors go on a treasure hunt to find their own sweet deal.

“Pull up your car and fill the boot – but you’d better be quick.”

Purchase the latest stock, museum and Briar Ridge favourites between 10am and 5pm on both days, while the kids can take advantage of free face painting from 11am to 2pm.

Gusto Wine Flights will also be available in the restaurant, Osteria, featuring Bianco (white), Rosso (red) or Mesco (mixed) to pair with a home-style meal or charcuterie board.

Then, on Sunday, from noon until 3.30pm, Newcastle’s own Cass Eleven is scheduled to perform her distinctive style of layered vocals, beatbox, flute, saxophone and guitar with all-live looping and generous doses of improvisation.

She blends soulful jazz, Latin, blues, reggae, folk, funk and hip hop influences to create a feel-good, groove-oriented energy.
