Community day to add flare to the weekend at Lake Macquarie

SHARE

Are you boat ready?

That’s the question NSW Maritime personnel will ask residents this weekend at Lake Macquarie.

Flare and fire extinguisher demonstrations, lifejacket servicing clinics and a bonanza of boating safety information is scheduled to part of the fun at a community event on Sunday 30 April.

NSW Maritime Director North Nicole Watts said Pelican Foreshore Reserve would host the state’s second Are You Boat Ready? Day between 9am and 3pm.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for boaters and the local community to see boating safety equipment in action, update their knowledge, and ask experts any questions they have about boating in the Hunter,” she explained.

“We will have our NSW Maritime boating education officers on site, along with representatives from NSW Police Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Service NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW.

“Plus, there’ll be retail partners so you can grab a new lifejacket or some boating safety gear right here on site.”

Transport for NSW deputy secretary for safety environment and regulation Sally Webb said the day would reinforce key safety messages for the location.

“This Sunday is about equipping boaters with everything they need to plan, prepare and predict for every trip on the water,” she stated.

“Whether it is equipment advice, local knowledge, lifejacket servicing techniques, or how to set up weather alerts on your phone, we’ll have experts on site ready to help.”

Those heading to the Are You Boat Ready? Day can also enjoy a snag by the lake, with a barbeque being run by Marine Rescue.
