After witnessing the devastation throughout the Hunter and Mid-North Coast, The X-Factor star Jason Owen will host a one-off flood relief concert in Newcastle next month.
The country music singer is keen to raise urgent funds for children and families, with all proceeds going to his charity Doin’ It For Rural Aussie Kids, when he steps onto the stage at Flamingos Live on Sunday 8 June.
Owen, who grew up in the tiny NSW town of Albert, population 12, knows first-hand the struggles rural residents face.
“So many people have lost so much in this devastating natural disaster,” he said.
“I’ve seen livestock floating down the main streets.
“Some of these animals are worth $10,000 each.
“It’s completely out of the farmers’ control.
“Then add fencing, machinery, equipment—the list goes on.”
Owen admitted the concert wasn’t just about “putting on a show”.
“Tragedies like this really resonate with me,” he said.
“So, I’ll also be personally visiting flood-affected areas with clothing, school gear and essentials to make sure the help gets to where it’s needed most.”
Since 2019, Owen’s charity has supported thousands of people during Christmas and times of crisis, delivering care packs and back-to-school supplies across Australia.
He rose to fame as runner-up on The X Factor Australia in 2012.
Since then, he’s released five studio albums, including several ARIA-charting records.
He’s toured nationally and co-hosted the Golden Guitar Awards three times alongside Tania Kernaghan.
His online performances have attracted more than 100 million views, earning him recognition as one of the country’s most authentic and heartfelt artists.
The Newcastle benefit concert will feature Owen’s original songs along with the timeless classics that have made him a viral hit, including tracks by John Denver, Freddy Fender, Dusty Springfield, Kenny Rogers and more.
Tickets are on sale now via Flamingos Live.
