Work scheduled for Jesmond roundabout on Newcastle Road

SHARE

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) crews will undertake work on Newcastle Road at the Jesmond roundabout this week.

From Tuesday 20 August, the northbound lane is slated to be closed for the installation of culverts to connect to the existing Dark Creek channels.

To minimise impact to motorists, the venture will take place between 6pm and 7am, weather permitting, over three nights.

Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h are planned for the safety of workers and road-users.

Construction on the Hexham Straight Widening project also continues.

There will be lane closures and a speed reduction to 40km/h during the work areas on Maitland Road to allow asphalting to proceed.

Subject to weather, the traffic arrangements are:

  • From Monday 19 August to Wednesday 21 August, there will be no right turn from Maitland Road into the Newcastle Inner City Bypass. There will be a contraflow for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road between Ironbark Creek bridge to the Newcastle Inner City Bypass. A detour will be in place via Wallsend Road 800 metres towards Newcastle. It will not impact outbound traffic travelling from Newcastle on Maitland Road
  • On Thursday 22 August, there will be a contra flow for both inbound and outbound lanes on Maitland Road to the north of Ironbark Creek with one lane operating in either direction.

A temporary speed of 60km/h will remain in place through the work zone during the day, dropping to 40km/h at night.

Over-Size Over-Mass (OSOM) operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m or with overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.

Significant delays will occur if they fail to do so.

Major construction work continues from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, out of hours from 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday and Saturday between 8am and 1pm.

Motorists are advised to follow the directions of signs and controllers, use alternative routes where possible or allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
