Police are seeking dashcam footage of an incident in Newcastle on Tuesday morning, which caused havoc with traffic flow and resulted in a woman being injured.
About 7.45am on 9 January, officers from Newcastle City PD were patrolling Carnley Avenue, New Lambton, when they attempted to stop a white Kia Cerato due to the manner of driving.
When the driver failed to obey directions, a pursuit was initiated, continuing west towards Charlestown Road.
A short time later, the Kia crashed into the rear of a hatchback on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Charlestown, causing the latter vehicle to hit a wall.
The driver of the hatchback, a woman believed to be aged in her 50s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
She has been taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition for the treatment of suspected broken ribs.
The driver of the Kia, a 17-year-old boy, underwent a preliminary roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.
The teenager was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.
He’s now assisting police with their inquiries.
A crime scene has been declared and will be investigated by officers attached to Newcastle City Police District.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
