In tragic circumstances, a woman has died and five people were hospitalised following a two-vehicle crash in Port Stephens on Saturday evening.

Emergency services were called to Nelson Bay Road, Salamander Bay, about 7.25pm on 17 January after receiving reports of the collision.

It’s believed the driver of a Toyota Rav4 – a 77-year-old female – passed away at the scene.

Her passengers – two men aged 78 and 79, and a 76-year-old woman – were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital.

They’re all in a stable condition.

Paramedics also tended to the driver and passenger of a Subaru Forester – a 66-year-old man and 60-year-old woman.

The duo was conveyed to the same hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Port Hunter Stephens Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by specialist members from the Crash Investigation Unit.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Anyone with information into the incident or dashcam footage is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
