A woman died, and a man was injured, following a single-vehicle crash in Port Stephens overnight.
Police were patrolling The Bucketts Way at Limeburners Creek, approximately 12km east of Clarence Town, about 10.30pm on Sunday 14 December.
It was there they located a 36-year-old male on the side of the road.
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were told the man’s vehicle had crashed nearby.
A short time later, they discovered it left the road and smashed into a tree.
A woman, believed to be aged 35, was found in the vehicle.
Sadly, she was unable to be revived.
The driver was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for assessment and mandatory testing.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has started and police urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
