A long-running Wickham bowling club and hospitality venue is searching for a new operator, opening the door to a potential new chapter for the prominent inner-city site.
The Croatian Wickham Sports Club Co-op Ltd at 20 Albert Street has been taken to market through a Request for Proposal process, with registered clubs, hospitality operators, sporting organisations and community groups invited to put forward ideas for its future.
The approximately 8,139 square metre Crown landholding includes a 652 square metre clubhouse with an established bar, commercial kitchen, gaming and licensing infrastructure, club rooms and three former bowling green areas.
The site has been part of the Wickham community for almost 50 years, operating as Wickham Bowling Club from 1977 before becoming Croatian Wickham Sports Club Co-op Ltd in 1989.

Its location places it close to Newcastle CBD, Honeysuckle and Newcastle Interchange, while the property also adjoins Wickham Park and a children’s playground.
The RFP process is designed to give prospective operators flexibility in how they propose to use and activate the site.
Potential uses could include recreational activities consistent with the existing zoning, hospitality and sporting concepts, community uses and opportunities that continue the venue’s links with Newcastle’s music scene.
Colliers national director Ben Curran said the property offered a rare opportunity close to the city centre.
“This is a unique opportunity to take on an established venue with a long history in the Newcastle community, significant outdoor space and existing hospitality infrastructure,” he said.
“While the site has a strong connection to its bowling club heritage, we are open to seeing what the market can come up with.”
The campaign comes as Wickham continues to undergo significant residential and commercial change around the Newcastle Interchange precinct.
Requests for Proposal close at 4pm on 15 October 2026.
