FOOD:

Friday Night Foodies is on at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima (MAP mima) in Speers Point from 5pm to 8pm. This week’s delicacy is Tibetan cuisine with local food vans on site together with art and a local wine or beer in an outdoor licensed area.

What’s On: Newcastle’s 40th Annual Doll Fair, Saturday 18 March

DOLLS:  

Stall holders from around NSW and interstate will be selling antique and modern dolls and teddy bears, their clothes and accessories at the 40th Annual Newcastle Doll Fair this Saturday. Proceeds from this year’s charity raffle will go to Jenny’s Place. The event will be held at Lambton High School from 9am to 3.30pm. 

KIDS COMEDY:  

Mr. Snotbottom is coming to the Brunker Community Theatre on Saturday at 10.30am and 4pm, and Sunday 10.30am and 11.30am. Described as ‘The Prince of Putrid’, ‘The Willy Wonka of Weird’, Mr Snotbottom is a cross between Mr. Bean and Shrek, selling out shows across the world with his icky, slimy, silly comedy for more than a decade. Winner of the Best Children’s Show Weekly Award at the Perth Fringe Festival, Mr. Snotbottom hopes to have the whole family gasping, groaning and howling with delight. 

RUGBY LEAGUE:  

Lake Macquarie City will play host to the NSW Touch State Championships from Friday to Sunday at Ernie Calland Fields in Gateshead. Running since 2016, the tournament has been a prestigious event on the touch representative calendar, drawing teams from NSW, Victoria and Queensland. On Friday a State of Origin game will be played from 5pm to 9pm, followed by matches on Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 9am to 1pm.

BOOKS: 

Hunter Valley author Todd Alexander will be making a special (free entry) appearance at East Maitland Library on Friday evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm to launch his latest novel Over the Hill and Up the Wall. This affectionate, hilarious novel looks at the friction of taking a more active role in others’ lives. Follow the heart-warming journey with parents of a certain age and their son who thinks he knows best. Beautifully written ..incorporating Todd’s wonderful sense of humour – Rebecca Riddle.

ART:  

‘Newcastle the Beautiful’ is an exhibition launching this Saturday at Lighthouse Arts Exhibition Space from 10am to 4pm. The selection of artworks depicting the beauty found in and around Newcastle, is the handiwork of several Hunter creatives. The exhibition will run each Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm until 26 March.  

What’s On: Newcastle Falcons first home game, Saturday 18 March

BASKETBALL: 

Newcastle Basketball Stadium will welcome its first home game of the 2023 NBL1 East season this Saturday. The sporting hub on Young Street will see the Newcastle Falcons women’s team take on Manly Sea Eagles at 5pm, followed by the men’s side at 7.15pm. 

What’s On: Lake Macquarie City Council Clean Out, Saturday 18 March.

CHEMICAL WASTE: 

This Saturday is the perfect time to clear the decks by getting rid of household problem waste like paint, gas bottles, pool chemicals, cleaning products, floor care products, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, cooking oils, motor fluids, herbicides and batteries at the free Chemical Clean Out at Rathmines Boat Ramp from 9am to 3.30pm. Visitors will be required to stay in their vehicles at all times while the operators remove the waste from car boots, trays or trailers. 

GARDENS:

The Bath House Garden in Oakhampton Heights is hosting an Open Day on Sunday, welcoming members of the public through its gates from 10am to 4pm. The Hunter Valley venue is expected to inspire and educate green thumbs of all ages, showcasing the four acres of manicured garden that also featured in the 2022 TV series of Farmer Wants a Wife.
