What’s On this Weekend: 10 to 12 Feb 2023

Get set for the warm weekend by making plans that include beaches by day and sunset dinners outdoors at night. Be adventurous, be supportive, and be entertained at one or many of the events on offer across our region this weekend.

FRIDAY: This is your last chance to enjoy Friday night dinner outdoors at The Station for a while.

Season Three of Friday Night Feast kicks off at The Station in Newcastle from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. The free family-friendly food market that boasts food trucks, live music, market stalls, kids’ entertainment and rides is also now home to a beer garden stocking BentSpoke beer. This week’s event will also be the final Friday Night Feast until after the Supercars.

Saturday: Some of the city’s most talented kids will hit the stage at YPT this weekend.

The Lake Macquarie Max Adventure Race starts and finishes at Wrightson Park, Cams Wharf, on Saturday 11 February. The first of five events, making up the 2023 series will see teams of competitors run, ride and kayak around the Wallarah Peninsula, Lake Macquarie from 6.30am.

While the main event will be held at Merewether Beach from 20 to 26 March, Surfest 2023 is hosting a number of surfing trials in the lead up, with the annual spectacle kicking off this Saturday with the Surfest Lake Mac City Pro Junior Trials at Redhead Beach.

Some of the region’s best young actors will take to the stage this weekend when Young People’s Theatre raises the curtain on its latest production Tuck Everlasting. Based on Natalie Babbitt’s best-selling children’s classic, it’s a timeless story of life and change. The season runs until February 26.

SUNDAY: Miss Porter’s House is blending the old with the new from this weekend

Visitors to Miss Porter’s House can experience the historic tales of family life in Newcastle in the 1900s and hear the Porter family stories in their own words using QR coded signage – an upgrade that launches this Sunday 12 February. Newcastle’s only National Trust property will have historic items on display as well as tales of The Red Shoes, two very stern-faced grandmothers, stained-glass panels, the Newcastle Earthquake, toilets and taps, and much more. The 15 mini-audio stories can be enjoyed between 1pm and 4pm.

The Newcastle Jets Men’s A-League will take on Melbourne Victory at McDonald Jones Stadium this Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Kids under 12 can enter for free and have the chance to collect trading cards, win prizes and enjoy live entertainment.

Fingal Bay ParkRun is on again this Sunday. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate a 5km course along Fingal Bay waterfront from Tomaree Rd to the boat ramp. The start/finish point is the park adjacent to the surf club. This free event is for all ages and all abilities.
