Yes, it really is the middle of October and we have less than 10 weeks to Christmas.
If you haven’t done something for yourself this year that involves getting out and about and soaking up the scenery then this weekend is your time.
Wander through some magnificent gardens, watch an old film, support those that need it or get creative with some free art.
Here’s a few suggestions:
GARDENS
The Bath House Garden in Oakhampton Heights is hosting an Open Day on Sunday 16 October, welcoming members of the public through its gates from 10am to 4pm. The Hunter Valley venue is expected to inspire and educate green thumbs of all ages, showcasing the four acres of manicured garden that also featured in the 2022 TV series of Farmer Wants a Wife.
RUN & REMEMBER
Got Your Back Sista Charity is inviting the community to walk, run, push, or wheel their way towards awareness this Sunday. By taking on your preferred distance and location participants can raise funds to support women and children who have suffered domestic violence. All registered participants will be given a tshirt or singlet and encouraged to share their involvement.
Go to www.gotyourbacksista.com for more details.

FILM
If you’re feeling sentimental and need a song, head to Rathmines Theatre on Friday to watch the screening of the 1965 musical The Sound of Music from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The cost is $15 per ticket. I dare you not to leave singing!
ART WALK
Take a walk on the art side as part of Lake Macquarie’s Pride Festival celebrations at the Warners Bay Foreshore this Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
Explore the public artworks that line the water’s edge by collecting an art booklet at the Markets then walking to the sculptures to claim your stickers.
From 2pm to 4pm visitors can take part in three artmaking stations offering drawing with tread, colour powder explosions and large scale drawing.
MARKETS
This Saturday marks the start of summer – not according to the calendar, but it does mean night markets are returning to the region, with Speers Point Park the venue for the Pride by Night twilight market from 4pm to 9pm.
Warners Bay Markets are on at the Warners Bay foreshore from 9am to 2pm on Saturday.
STREET PARTY
Live music, roving entertainment, a pop-up bar, and food stalls will fill one of the city’s most popular roadways when the Darby Street Party celebrates ‘Streets as Shared Spaces’ with a free event on Saturday from 10am to 8pm.

SPORT
The Newcastle Jets will kick off their season with a match against Perth Glory at McDonalds Jones Stadium on Saturday from 5pm. Pre-game entertainment for the whole family will include giveaways, games and live music.
