LET’S FISH LAKE MAC:

Catch big, win big on Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake. Let’s Fish Lake Mac is Lake Macquarie’s new open fishing competition. It will go from 7am on Friday 13 to 2pm on Sunday 15 November. A catch-and-release event, there is a total of $20,000 in prizes up for grabs across adult and junior divisions.

Cost is $20 per person. Go to the Let’s Fish Lake Mac website to register or for more information. Sign-ups close today (Thursday 12 November).

THE AESTHETIC TABLE:

Back to Back Galleries will host an exhibition called The Aesthetic Table from Friday 13 November at 57 Bull Street, Cooks Hill. The exhibition is a study on ‘still life’, a contemporary re-construction of forms and textures as the artists reframe meaning through their domestic aesthetic juxtapositions.

GARAGE SALE:

Lots of different items for sale, toys, paintings/prints, household items, plants, vintage collectables, brand new and second-hand items, and a selection of books will be on offer. The garage sale will support the work of The Umbrella Foundation Australia and Centre for Hope’s youth programs.

It will take place on Saturday 14 November from 8am to 2pm at 135 High Street, East Maitland. A Centre for Hope coffee van will be on site to provide amazing coffee and a selection of hot pies, muffins, and cookies. All items are to be sprayed and disinfected and visitors will need to check-in to comply with COVID-safe practices.

COME AND TRY DRAGON BOATING:

Sessions will take place on Saturday 14 and 21 November at 34 Tully Street, Carrington. Arrive at 8am for an 8.30am entrance on the water. All fitness levels, ages 18+. Sessions will operate under a full COVID safety plan and tracing. Contact [email protected] for more information or to register.

LAP THE MAP FOR DIABETES:

Lions Australia’s Lap the Map for Diabetes fundraiser will coincide with World Diabetes Day on Saturday 14 November. Lions is conducting this annual event throughout Australia and is inviting the nation’s families and friends, school communities and sporting organisations to participate in this national relay walk to promote awareness of diabetes and promote a healthy lifestyle. A gold coin donation on the day will go towards the campaign.

CHRISTMAS AND CRAFT FAIR:

Maitland Country Women’s Association will host a Christmas and Craft Fair on Saturday 14 November from 8.30am to 1.30pm at the CWA Hall (46 Church Street, Maitland). There will be plum puddings and Christmas cakes, plants, and lovely handmade items. The fair will raise money to help support CWA’s work in the local community, as well as maintenance costs at the hall.

BOOK LAUNCH:

Portraits of Paterson NSW will explore the people, places, and buildings that helped shape the Lower Hunter town during the 20th and 21 centuries. Written by Alison Pitkin and published by the Paterson Historical Society, it will be launched on Sunday 15 November at John Tucker Park (Maitland Road, Paterson) from 1pm to 4pm. Books will be available at $25 each.

COMMUNITY WORKING BEE:

Visitors and members are welcome to attend the monthly working bee at the Warners Bay Community Garden. Please wear protective clothing, covered shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Tools are provided. Saturday 21 November from 9am to 1pm at Bunya Park (corner Cherry Road and Macquarie Drive, Eleebana).

TRI NATIONS:

Australia will tackle Argentina in round four of the Tri Nations rugby union series at McDonald Jones Stadium (294 Turton Road, Broadmeadow) on Saturday 21 November from 7.45pm. Go to Ticketmaster’s website to buy tickets.

OPERA HUNTER SHOWCASE:

Features soloists in their spectacular best performing a range of popular songs, from Wagner, Mascagni, Rossini, Bizet, Rogers, Hammerstein, John Adams, Dolly Parton and more. Saturday 21 November from 2pm at Rathmines Theatre (25 Stilling Street, Rathmines). Tickets cost $25. Email [email protected] for more information.

NEWCASTLE COMEDY FESTIVAL:

Kicking off a weeklong celebration of non-stop comedy with an amazing line-up of the festival’s funniest international stars, homegrown legends, and next-big-things in comedy. The festival will go across the weekend of Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November. Shows will take place at 3pm and 8pm on both days at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle. MARKET DAY:

The East Maitland Branch of the Country Women’s Association will host a market day at 162 George Street, East Maitland, on Saturday 28 November from 8am to 1pm. Cakes, slices, jams, plants, and handicrafts on sale.
